Kickoff

Roy and I kicked our project off on 2018-07-07 Saturday, the last day of the first week of the PDC in Gunsleben.

We created a Dream Circle to get at the dream for this project.

At the end we celebrated having come up with the dreams. We set up a meeting to continue the process. We agreed 2018-07-10 10:00:00+02:00 in Eindhoven.

Meeting 1

  • Proposed meeting time: 2018-07-10 10:00:00+02:00
  • Start time: 2018-07-10 10:00:00+02:00
  • End time: 2018-07-10 12:30:00+02:00
  • Participants: Arno Peters, Roy Hendriks
  • Location: Eindhoven

The first formal meeting of our design team was 2018-07-10 Tuesday. Roy and Arno met in Eindhoven from 10:00 to 12:30.

We started with a review of our dreams. We used the Dragon Dreaming e-book to guide the process. We individually wrote ideas down on post-it notes. The generative question was: "Which particular things need to be done first in order to make this dream come true?"

After 8 minutes we had about 8 notes each. We placed the notes into columns, alternating between the two of us. We used one column per theme. We discussed as we put notes down. When we were finished we celebrated with a high five.

For each column we wrote down keywords and formed the keywords into a sentence. These become our project objectives.

Next, we followed the process described in the Dragon Dreaming e-book for building the project goal.

We proceeded to generate a list of tasks with the process described in the Dragon Dreaming e-book. We went over the tasks to first find which quadrant of the wheel they belong to. Next we looked at if the task was for the group (we) or connected to a wider community (world) or both.

Finally we went over the task list again and assigned the tasks either to an individual or to a group.

The final task list looks like this:

  • set up dropbox (doing / we / Arno)
  • set up meeting with Gerbrand (planning / world / Arno)
  • set up communication medium (doing / we / group)
  • set up next meeting (planning / we / group)
  • share Karabirrdt online (doing / we / Roy)
  • inform Rakesh about the start (celebration / we / Roy)
  • document this meeting (celebration / both / group)
  • share meeting results with other teams (celebration / both / Roy)
  • define how we record process (dreaming / we / Roy: photos, Arno: text)

At this point we finished the meeting with a reflection on the process. We used the 4 Questions to guide us.

For Roy:

  • went well: cooperation, following the process, the result of the process
  • do differently: regularly save documents on computer to prevent data loss on computer crash
  • vision: learning by doing
  • next step: execute tasks, going deeper into Dragon Dreaming

For Arno:

  • went well: like Roy, it's clear who will do what and when
  • do differently: also involve Rakesh
  • vision: to do the whole design this way
  • next step: execute tasks

AHA-moments:

  • for Arno: process feels like working 'from Patterns to Details'
  • for Roy: I see a connection to 'Integrate rather than Segregate', maybe we can find more connection?

Meeting 2

  • Proposed meeting time: 2018-07-24 10:00:00+02:00
  • Start time: 2018-07-24 10:15:00+02:00
  • End time: 2018-07-24 10:45:00+02:00
  • Participants: Arno Peters, Roy Hendriks
  • Location: Jitsi (online)

Roy's internet connection was intermittent and expensive. This is why we kept communication short.

The main discussion centered on tasks to do for survey. We each brainstormed for 5 minutes to list the tasks we thought were important to push the project forward.

Like last meeting we looked at what mentality the task represented and assigned a responsible for it.

  • create transcript of interview (doing / we / Roy)
  • look at how Dragon dreaming process guides us further (planning / both / Roy)
  • mapping (dreaming / both / Arno)
  • financial budget (dreaming / we / Arno via Gerbrand)
  • brainstorm options to make money (dreaming / we / group)

We put the tasks on the Karabirrdt. The result is in the figure below.

Karabirrdt after the second meeting. Finished tasks have a grey background.

We finished the meeting by filling out the 4Q.

4Q's Arno:

  • What went well?
    • It's good to have a chat about updates
    • New steps/tasks
  • What would I do differently?
    • Briefly go over findings so far
  • What is my next step?
    • Execute tasks
  • What is my vision?
    • Finish the design

4Q's Roy:

  • What went well?
    • New tasks and steps into design
  • What would I do differently?
    • Prepare more for the meeting.
  • What is my vision?
    • Learn more and make a proper design useful for Gerbrand & family and for us who are interested.
  • What is my next step?
    • Execute tasks, look at Dragon Dreaming and how it can guide us further into the design process.

Meeting 3

  • Proposed meeting time: 2018-07-31 10:00:00+02:00

This meeting never took place.
